Inspired by Enheduanna (around 2285–2250 BCE) – poet, high priestess and princess – who wrote poems on clay tablets 4300 years ago, Soul'O explores power, desire and our innate ability to rise over and over again with new strength.
Enheduanna’s poems tell the story of how she was deposed and cast down into the underworld. It is the story of overcoming the tests that life throws at you, and emerging changed by the experience. Instead of asking who she is, she concludes that “I am,” while challenging dualistic thinking, by insisting that matter also contains soul. Because human beings are new and fresh, bound up in a constant process.
Based on a handful of heartfelt songs composed by Haugen, live music, movement and 60-million-year-old coals from Svalbard, Liv Hanne Haugen creates a sensual and deeply penetrating solo. Her work is largely guided by her focus on listening to the body’s signals. But how much of yourself can you stand? How unique can you be, and how unique do you really want to be?
What she has turned to dust
Will never rise again
She walks out – runs
Ties on her shoes
