About Dansens Hus
Welcome to Dansens Hus, Norway’s national stage for contemporary dance. A place to experience, develop and talk about dance. A building for audiences and for dance art itself. A building for families and a building for dance artists. A place for people who love dance, and for people who have never watched dance before. A stage for people who want to be inspired, moved and challenged.

What is Dansens Hus?
We present Norwegian and international dance performances of high quality. With us, you will find a diversity of voices and artistic expressions relevant to our time. The performances we present are created by Norwegian and international choreographers and companies, ranging from emerging artists to internationally renowned star choreographers. Dansens Hus is a venue for the whole family, with performances for children from 0 years and up. Most performances take place on our own stages, but we also present performances outdoors.

Årsrapporter (in Norwegian only)Strategy
Dansens Hus is Norway’s national stage for dance. A place to experience, develop, and discuss dance as an art form. We exist for the audience, for dance artists, and for the art itself. Dansens Hus aims to strengthen dance as an art form and to increase the audience for dance in Norway. We present high-quality Norwegian and international dance art, support and develop artistic practices, promote dance throughout the country, and work to increase knowledge and understanding of dance as an art form.
The Dansens Hus strategy for 2026–2029 was developed in 2025 following an extensive process involving the management of Dansens Hus, employees, the board, and dance artists.

GREAT art for all children
From the very beginning, Dansens Hus has presented dance performances for babies. The project BIG Art for Small Children/BIG Art for All Children is now in its third edition, and is an initiative from Dansens Hus to encourage the development of more performances for young audiences.

Since 2008, Dansens Hus has been located in a former factory building from 1873 that has been renovated and rebuilt into a beautiful theatre venue.
We primarily present performances on two stages: the Main Stage/Hovedscenen and the Studio Stage/Studioscenen. Both are accessible at street level, with no stairs at the stage entrances.
The Main Stage can accommodate up to 450 people in total, but is most often used with a standard tiered seating arrangement of 317 seats. The Studio Stage has a maximum capacity of 150 people, with a typical tiered seating setup for 76 audience members.
