We live in a time marked by major crises and transformation. The questions surrounding how cultural institutions should engage with these issues are more contentious—and urgent—than they have been in generations. This calls for new thinking.

The program features a keynote presentation by author, poet, and social commentator Guro Sibeko, as well as a panel discussion lead by multidisciplinary artist, performer, and community weaver Ayesha Jordan, with senior curator at Munch, Tominga O’Donnell, performing artist and director Pia Maria Roll and dance artist Carl Aquilizan. There will also be presentations by choreographers Dorothée Munyaneza and Armin Hokmi, followed by a workshop led by Sonya Lindfors.

Together, we will explore how artistic and institutional practices can become more deeply rooted in long-term, socially engaged work. We will examine what lies beyond representation, and how curatorial strategies can shift from exclusion to liberation. Together, we will ask how fiction and speculation can help us imagine a more just future—and how we, in a time of pressure, can continue to work with care, clarity, and commitment.

About:
The seminar is organized by Dansens Hus Oslo in collaboration with Helsinki-based UrbanApa.

It is part of BRIDGES, a Nordic initiative that seeks to build long-term and sustainable collaborations across the region and foster critical discourse around anti-racist and intersectional feminist practices in the performing arts. The BRIDGES partners are UrbanApa (FI), MDT (SWE), HAUT (DEN), Reykjavik Dance Festival (IS), and Dansens Hus Oslo (NOR). BRIDGES is supported by Nordic Culture Point and the Nordic Culture Fund.
